Social Skills

Developmental Assets Training

This training was a breakdown of "the building blocks of healthy development" in children. What we found empowering was the need for family support, along with the need for community in raising a well-rounded child. Other important factors in this development are role models, religion, and school in what leads to the building blocks of the whole child.

We created a parent training to help support the Developmental Assets at home.

We created a list of books that help children develop social skills such as sharing, taking turns, self control, etc.  The stories lead to great class discussions.

Imagination Playground

boy playing in imagination playgroundWe were able to purchase an Imagination Playground, where children use foam blocks in all different shapes and sizes to build and "pretend play" on the Kindergarten yard. This helps students learn social and developmentally appropriate skills to plan together, build, and come to an agreement on what the end result will be.

These students are planning, discussing, and building.

Here is a lesson plan on the Imagination Playground and how to get your students started with it once you receive the materials.
