Deborah Swan

Professional Biography:

Deborah Swan -TIIP Team Leader

  •  20 years + working experience as an Aerospace Engineer, first African-American woman to work on the Space Shuttle as an Engineer and first Sr. Engineer for Mattel Toys
  • 17 years as a teacher, (8 as a Literacy Coach) serving Windsor Hills Magnet, 232nd Street Elementary, Canfield, Crescent Heights, Community Magnet, Palms, 13 private & parochial schools  
  • Advanced Reading and Language Arts Leadership Program-UCLA Extension, 2008
  • Served as Content Review Panel Member for the 2008 Reading/Language Arts-Primary Adoption
  • Presenter for AB466 Professional Development Reading Institutes 2001, 2002, 2006, 2007
  • LAUSD Intern trainer – 3 day OCR orientation, Social Studies/History, Art and Literacy 1996-1998, 2005-2006

Stephannie Koli-Sharif

Professional Biography:

  • Stephannie Koli-Sharif TIIP Team MemberBachelors degree from UCLA and Masters Degree in Education from Pepperdine University. Teaching for 14 years.
  • Taught K, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades.
  • Gifted and Talented Teacher 2nd Grade
  • Mentor Teacher/Practitioner 
  • Co-Coordinator of NHC-LAUSD
  • Worked at New Horizon School– Westside for 3 years and Windsor Hills for 12 years.
  • Represented Windsor Hills and Local District D on a TV program for a program on Title 1 Academic Achieving Schools that aired on KCLS. The video provided an overview of successful programs, strategies, and initiatives used by the Los Angeles Unified School District.
  • Taken advantage of a variety of professional development opportunities such as attending conferences on Differentiated Instruction, Multi-Cultural Relevant Instruction, being trained in the use and implementation of FOSS Science kits, Math Envision Program, and completing UCLA Extension classes.
  • Served as co-coordinator of the annual school-wide Math Marathon that raises money for St. Judes Children’s Hospital. 
  • Served on the School’s Site Council, and the Student Success Team. The Student Success Team is a group of teachers, administrators and specialists who meet on a weekly basis to find ways to provide intervention for students who struggle with their academics or behavior. They also refer students with special needs to the Resource Department to be assessed.
