Teacher Biographies
Nadine Loza (Team Leader)
Nadine has taught exclusively at Rowland High School for 9 years. She teaches AP European History and US History. She is currently the faculty adviser for the Social Studies Academy club and for the NOH8/GSA club at Rowland High School. In addition, she was the Assistant Cross Country coach for 4 years. She has a Master's degree in Latin American Studies. Thanks to the UCLA TIIP grant, she has attended numerous conferences on equity and access in education and in social studies pedagogy. She is currently a Choices Teaching Fellow on social studies curriculum units produced by Brown University.
Kimberly Woo
Kimberly has taught for 6 1/2 years, all at Rowland High School and is also a Rowland alumnus. She currently teaches AP US History and US History. She is also one of the co-academic coaches for the school's Academic Decathlon and Mock Trial teams. She holds a Masters degree in Educational Administration. She has also had the opportunity to attend the College Board’s annual AP Conference and the International Baccalaureate’s regional training. Thanks to UCLA's TIIP funding, she has attended the Teachers 4 Social Justice and College Board's Preparate Conferences.
Alicia Morales
Alicia has been teaching at Rowland High School for 5 years. She currently teaches Honors World History, including the entry level Social Studies Academy course. While earning her teaching credential at Chapman University, she had the opportunity to engage in several workshops from Rethinking Schools. In 2008, she attended the Lincoln Center Institute National Educator’s summer workshop in New York City. She has attended district initiated Professional Development such as Thinking Maps, Write for the Future, and Building Literacy.Thanks to the UCLA TIIP grant, she has attended various conferences and workshops including the College Board's annual AP Conference, Teachers for Social Justice, and Literacy Summit XI.
Alicia Robles
Alicia has been a Spanish teacher for 23 years. She has been at Rowland High School for 22 years, during which time she has taught Spanish 1, 3, 4, AP, IB, Skills for Success and AVID. She holds Masters degrees in Spanish and Educational Counseling. Through the UCLA TIIP grant, she was offered the opportunity to attend a Teachers for Social Justice conference in San Francisco. Additionally, she recently attended a 3-day IB conference, and in the last two years, she has attended two 5-day AP workshops sponsored by the California Foreign Language Project through Occidental College.
