Autobiographical Projects

Sample autobiographical projects.

Autobiographical Projects

In the Big Picture model, students begin a four year autobiographical journey in the 9th grade.  Beginning with the Who Am I? Project, students begin to reflect on and explore who they are.  During each year of high school students are expected to write 25 pages of narrative, autobiographical essays using sensory details.  During senior year students not only complete their 100 page autobiography, they also spend months fine-tuning a creative component to complement the writing.  These projects can take a variety of formats, such as:

  • A film
  • A film script
  • A play
  • Dramatic performance
  • Recorded music
  • Dance performance
  • Fine art exhibit
  • etc.

The student needs to have studied the artistic background of the medium they choose to work with.

Sample Autobiographical Projects

Due to the personal nature of many products, as well as images of students themselves, we were only able to find a few final products that can be displayed.

  1. Artist Statement and Images: This student chose to draw and paint a series of images that represents his life.
  2. Poetry Anthology: This student chose to create and publish a series of poems about important moments in his life.
  3. Embroidered Tablecloth: Inspired by a cultural tradition practiced by her mother, this student created an adorned tablecloth that represented key facets of both her background and her own life.
  4. Sample of autobiographical writing: short excerpt of student writing.
