Professional Development
As a part of this grant, our team attended professional development and then shared our learning with other teachers in the TIIP program.
Professional Development Activities within the TIIP Program
Our project
consisted of support from a variety of local science education support
institutions: The California Institute of Technology, Oak Crest
Institute of
Science in Pasadena, and the UCLA Science Project at UCLA's Center X.
Teachers received Professional Development Training from the Bruce
Wallace Amgen Biotechnology Team in the Summer of 2011. Subsequently, during the Summer of 2012 our team received
training on Project-Based Learning from the Oak Crest Institute of
Science through a partnership with the
California Institute of Technology teachers Professional Development
department. Finally, the UCLA Center X-California
Science Project supported the team throughout the two-year grant with
bi-monthly on-site coaching to design and implement
teaching strategies that are
accessible to our students, particularly our at-risk population.
