  • 9th Grade Student Video - PSA - as a final demonstration and action step for student research project is the creation of a puppet show that is a PSA about the student's research in Urban Ecology, specifically their study on Environmental Racism.  This video is about a student's uncovering of the importance of green space and mental health.
  • 9th Grade Sustainability Design Challenge- This culminating project was a hands on design challenge that allowed students to re-imagine their local campus and community context in a more sustainable way.  These projects, like the PSA's above where part of the youth participatory action research that all 9th grade students were engaged in during the inaugural year of the small schools at Augustus Hawkins High School.  The students displayed their work in a fair that was co-hosted by Los Angeles Food Policy Council, introducing a community market conversion program.  The projects are also intended to be a first iteration of potential campus transformation projects that come to fruition, such as rain and vegetable gardens.  The Center for Urban Resilience at LMU also played a pivotal role in helping students to think critically about the urban landscape as an ecosystem.
  • 9th Grade Los Angeles Riots Student Map Presentations - Students presented thier interactive maps, documenting their examination of place and time within the context of the 20 year anniversary of the LA Riots. They were tasked with identifying and describing important locations that demonstrated comparison and contrasting of how areas in Los Angeles have either changed or remained the same.
  • 10th Grade Student Video - after studying the Economic Theories of the Industrial Revolution, students were tasked to create a commercial promoting one of those theories and utilize story telling techniques. Here is an example commercial.
