Leadership Development in Interethnic Relations
The LDIR class is designed to develop student leaders for a multicultural society. Through participatory action research, LDIR students learn about an issue of justice to conduct research around. For example, environmental racism, food deserts, and urban farming. Every year, the students present their research and findings to a larger schooling community (elected officials, parents, students, and other educators). Partnered with the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, the LDIR class exposes students to real life situations that would benefit from their historical analysis. Finally, it was the combined efforts of APALC and LDIR (mainly) that funneled the beginnings of the community garden on campus.
