Student Focused Aerospace Actitivities
Students were actively involved and engaged in Aerospace activities.
World Space Week
Space week is an international event and Windsor Hills celebrates it in grand style! Our school's events are featured on the World Space Week calendar. The week kicks off with Aerospace Day - a fun filled day of hands-on aerospace related activities. Students rotate to different classrooms and produce center based projects that can be flight-tested, displayed, or taken home. During the rest of the week, guest speakers present on aerospace related topics ranging from aerospace career choices to aerospace project demonstrations. The week culminates with a school-wide Space Week assembly.
Boeing Career Day
Boeing Employees visit our school and present to a selected group of 3rd and all 4th and 5th grade students. Boeing personnel show video clips and speak on a range of topics related to aerospace. Topics have included "Careers in Aviation", "Careers in Engineering", and "The Building of a Space Satellite". They respond to questions from the students and show students various ways to get involved in the aerospace field while still in school. In addition, AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) and Boeing provide memorabilia that students are able to take home. The last speaker to visit Windsor Hills was a graduate of our school.
Black Engineers Conference
Every year the National Society of Black Engineers Alumni has sponsored a conference and has included a student component with hands-on activities. TIIP team members make sure a group of Windsor Hills students attend, handling registration, transportation, and organizing.
Field Trip to Columbia Memorial Space Center
For the last two years, we have organized a grade level field trip to the Columbia Memorial Space Center. It is a hands-on learning center that has a wide range of interesting and exciting displays that bring space science to students of all ages. It has over 20,000 square feet equipped with amazing technology and visual teaching exhibits.
Science Fair
Windsor Hills holds an annual Science Fair for grades Kindergarten through 5th. It showcases Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science projects. An additional category for Aerospace projects has been incorporated.
