Woodrow Wilson High School Team Bio (TIIP 2)

Here's some biographical information about our team members.

Team Biography/ Information

La Canada High School / Wilson High School (IB) / LAUSD-East

Tracey Calhoun, our team leader, taught for six years at Wilson High School and is beginning her second year on the English faculty at La Canada High School. She holds a Masters degree in Education from UCLA and a clear single subject credential in English. At Wilson, she was a key member of a team of teachers and administrators who traveled to New York City and Miami to take part in small schools study tours in preparation for forming small learning communities. She also served as lead teacher for the Environmental and Urban Studies SLC. Tracey has participated in numerous professional development opportunities, including training in polarity management and developmental assets. She has attended the Pedagogy and Theater of the Oppressed national conference, the Skirball Cultural Center’s Teaching the World Through Film workshop, and Facing History and Ourselves’ Holocaust and Human Behavior seminar.

 

Mariela Andrade has been teaching for five years at Woodrow Wilson High School in LAUSD. She has her Master of Arts in Teaching in Social Sciences from the University of Southern California. She earned a double major for her Bachelor’s degrees from UCSD in History and Ethnic Studies. She has participated in trainings and professional development opportunities with the Latin American Institute at UCLA, Skirball Cultural Center, Student Voice Project Journalism Summer Institute at USC, and has attended four years of AVID summer training. She is currently the Lead Teacher for the social justice/public service small learning community (SLC) Agents of Change. 

 

Samira Dabiri has been teaching for ten years. She has been at Wilson High School for the past seven years and worked for Glendale Preparatory Academy for 3 years. She holds a teaching credential in Art and a Master’s degree in Art Education. She is part of the Museum of Contemporary Art's (MOCA) Contemporary Art Start program for High School art teachers. She has also participated in the “Creativity in the Classroom” training sponsored by the Inner City Arts Foundation and has attended teacher workshops at the Getty Museum and LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art).

 

Mylene Keipp has been a teacher and administrator during her for nineteen years for LAUSD. Although Mylene is not a classroom teacher, she is a member and glue for our team because she is a teacher leader. Her current role is Secondary Literacy Coordinator, for Educational Service Center, East. She models instructional strategies, engages faculty in deep conversations, and assesses our growth with reflective conversations. She is working on certification as an Agency Trainer for Cognitive Coachingsm and is a Training Associate for Adaptive Schools. She has seen the transformative power of skillful coaching and facilitation.
