Ms. Castaneda's PhotoStory3

Project Description   Color Sense Poem

After completing a couple of writing assignments where students needed to include sensory details in their writing, students created a PhotoStory3 video of a color sense poem. The goal of the project was not only to demonstrate comprehension of using sensory details in writing, but also to gain experience in using the PhotoStory 3 program.

In the color sense poem, students were asked to use their 5 senses to react to something and write about it. For this sense poem, we used a color. Students used the following template for their poem. They created a first draft before they were able to go on the computer and use the program.

________________________________

(Title – the actual color)

___________________ looks like ________________________________

___________________ sounds like ______________________________

___________________ feels like ________________________________

___________________ smells like _______________________________

___________________ tastes like _______________________________

___________________ makes me _______________________________

___________________ is ______________________________________

Initially, many of my students were embarrassed about putting on the headsets and recording when others were around. Once more students were all at the stage of recording their voices, they no longer felt self-conscious about wearing the headsets and reading the poem.

One of my goals this year was to increase the number of assignments my students had to upload and submit for grading. For that reason, after students rendered the videos, they uploaded their video to the online grading program, Engrade Pro, the school uses. They turned in the assignment online.
