Team Biography

Our TIIP II team is comprised of three middle school science teachers working in the Greater Los Angeles area:


Catherine Tran, Washington Middle School (La Habra, CA)

Portrait-Catherine TranCatherine earned her preliminary teaching credential and Masters degree in Education in 2009 from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2008, she began her teaching career at John Adams Middle School. During that time, Catherine taught science and served as the primary coach for John Adam’s SRLA (Students Run Los Angeles) Marathon Team. In 2010, Catherine began teaching science and TSMA (Technology Science Math Academy) at Washington Middle School in La Habra, California. In 2013, Catherine earned her preliminary administrative credential and Masters degree in Education from UCLA's Principal Leadership Institute.

 

Anne Yi, Southeast Middle School (South Gate, CA)

Anne PhotoAnne earned her preliminary credential and Masters degree in Education in 2009 from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2008, she began her work as a 7th and 8th grade science teacher at Southeast Middle School in South Gate, California. She currently holds the position of science department chair at her school. Anne also served as a marathon leader for Students Run LA from 2009 to 2012, and in 2013 became the primary coach of the marathon team at Southeast Middle School.  In addition to her work with the TIIP grant program, Anne is involved in the evaluation of Common Core ELA initiatives through UCLA School of Graduate Education's Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST) and is a contributor to The STEMx Collaborative at UCLA (Lynn John, Imelda Nava-Landeros).


Natalie Young, Southeast Middle School (South Gate, CA)

Natalie earned her preliminary credential through the District Intern Program at LAUSD and holds a Masters in Science Education from CSULB. She served as her school's science department chair for three years and piloted Southeast Middle School's Annual Science Fair in 2012. Natalie has a true love for science as inquiry and works to provide her students with multiple opportunities to engage in the scientific process.
