In the Road to Success Academy’s unit on Transformation, the Science department identified the transformation of the earth from Pangea to the seven continents we now have as a very relevant educational focus of a thematic interdisciplinary project. The students studied plate tectonics, including divergent, convergent and transform plates as well as the different types of volcanoes and their characteristics.

The students then had the opportunity to create models of these plates and volcanoes using clay supplies. The exhibition that is unrolled to special guests at the end of each unit allows students to showcase their knowledge to an audience. The teacher is an observer during these special days that facilitate the student exhibitions. The TIIP grant has allowed the teachers to expand the horizon of possibilities for projects that will be both exciting for the students while deeply embedded in state standard learning.
