Biographical information about each team member.
Anne Ying Snyder
Anne has been teaching at Nevin Elementary for 7 years. She has taught the second through fifth grades. In addition to her full-time classroom teaching responsibility, Anne has played an important role in raising student achievement in Nevin Avenue Elementary. As the lead math teacher and a member of our school instructional leadership team, Ms. Snyder has provided wonderful instructional support to our teachers. She has conducted several effective professional developments in the area of pedagogy, assessment data analysis, and technology. She also played a vital role in writing a math grant funded by Mind Research Institute. The grant has brought ST Math, a research-proven computer program and music keyboard instruction, that enhances the student math learning experience. As the leader of this project, Anne has been working collaboratively with the team to bring differentiated instruction in writing using technology in our school.
Joseph Espinosa
Joseph is a National Board Certified Teacher (Middle Childhood Generalist), and he has been teaching in Los Angeles Unified School District for nine years. He has worked seven years at Hooper Avenue Elementary and is in his second year at Nevin Avenue Elementary. His teaching focus is differentiation and content knowledge integrating science with math, English language arts, and technology. In addition to being a highly effective teacher, Joseph is a member of Nevin's instructional leadership team and the Gifted Education Coordinator. As part of his duties as Gifted Coordinator, he recently started an after school electrical engineering club for the gifted students. Joseph has conducted several effective professional development sections for Nevin staff in the area of Gifted Education, Differentiation, and Writing Workshop. During this past year, he has supported a few Nevin teachers pursuing their National Board certification.
Frances Valadez
Frances is currently the Title III coordinator at Nevin Ave. School. She has been working with teachers and students to raise student achievement in Language Arts. With her dedication, reclassification rate for Nevin's ELD students has improved tremendously. Prior to her promotion, she was the instructional coach in language arts, as well as being a full-time fifth grade teacher and mentor teacher to universities. She has been the lead teacher for the Response to Intervention and Instruction (RTI2) and a member of the school leadership team. Frances is also in the Administrative Educational Leadership, Ed.D program at California State University, Los Angeles.
