The following is a list of the businesses we chose to study for our TIIP grant.  Some of them came about through research, others through word of mouth, and still others were suggested by different study sites.  Included is a short description, address, and a link to their website (please click on the name of the organization to be taken to their website).

 

Smart Design

Smart Design is a leader in cutting/edge product design, implementation, and marketing, emphasizing simplicity and social responsibility.

Arup

An independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants, and technical specialists, with offices in 42 countries (including 10 in the U.S.)

Morphosis

Led by Pritzker Prize-winning founder Thom Mayne, Morphosis is an interdisciplinary practice involved in rigorous design and research yielding innovative, iconic buildings and urban environments.

California Science Center

A nationally-recognized center that inspires young people to become excited about and involved in science through its museum and variety of educational services.

Big Bang

Each Summer the” Big Bang” conference brings together project-based educators from throughout the international Big Picture network to compare notes and hone strategies.

Students Run LA

Founded over 25 years ago by L.A. teachers, SRLA provides equipment, expertise and motivation (athletic, academic, and personal) for thousands of young people in Los Angeles each year to train for and complete the Los Angeles Marathon.

Bamboo Bike Studio

Launched in 2008 to develop a better bike for the developing world, the Bamboo Bike builds affordable, higher quality bicycles made from locally sourced bamboo and labor, and holds workshops at 4 locations in the U.S. where people learn to build their own bikes.
