My TIIP Reflection: Ana Rodriguez
I am thankful for the support that TIIP have given me to grow and become the teacher that my students deserve.
To me, the everlasting journey of the instructor is to self-assess, reflect, research, and choose the best methods and tools to support her students. Sometimes this journey becomes overwhelming because adequate support is lacking in many of the districts that employ us. I feel very lucky to have been supported by the TIIP program. I was able to focus on developing my skills to meet the needs of my students. At the end of every year, I give my students surveys about their opinions and recommendations of my instruction. My students have expressed very positive things about the use of technology in the classroom, the hands on activities, and my commitment to a high quality education. I feel that a lot of this is due to my growth through the TIIP program.
When I first started the program I was a bit afraid of technology and the great responsibility that the teaching profession demands. My grandparents never learned to read, my mother and father only attended second grade, and I came from a town in Mexico where you have to travel for several hours to find an internet cafe. Obviously education and technology have always been important to me, but I must admit I lacked confidence in my teaching because of my background.
The TIIP program has allowed me to improve my teaching and find the confidence to share my knowledge with my students and my colleagues. My journey as teacher continues, but today I am more confident and able to help my colleagues thanks to what I learned through the TIIP program.
