LA-born artist/curator/educator Devon Tsuno works primarily with spray paint and acrylic. His recent series of abstract paintings on handmade Japanese papers, titled Insurgent Horticulture, focuses on the non-native vegetative species present in the Southern California ecosystem. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently at Gallery Roppongi 605 in Tokyo. Other notable exhibitions of his work have been held at the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, Torrance Art Museum, Sam Lee Gallery, PØST Gallery, Monte Vista Projects, Carl Berg Gallery, Raid Projects, and Summercamp's ProjectProject. Tsuno holds a BFA from Cal State Long Beach and a MFA from Claremont Graduate University. In addition to teaching foundational drawing, painting, design and color theory courses at CSULB, the University of La Verne, the CSSSA at Cal Arts, and Idyllwild Arts, he also works at Cypress College as both an art professor and formerly the gallery director/curator. Since 2003, Tsuno has also served as the founder/director of Concrete Walls, an artist run curatorial project with numerous collaborative exhibitions focused on building community in the greater Los Angeles area.
