Artist's Statement
Simple forms, objects and words, have always played a role in my work. I believe when things are at their most elemental they reveal to us their essence. A word, when it stands alone, has a unique power and intensity. It taps into the unconscious and creates new meaning.
Influenced by the architecture of Mesoamerica and modernist design, my work investigates geometric spatial arrangements using an elemental and minimalist sensibility.
“Brown” was part of a series created for my solo show titled, “Vaguely Chicana” exhibited at Tropico de Nopal Art Space in Los Angeles. This series introduced elements of abstraction, minimalism and the feminine to broaden the dialogue of the Chicano Art paradigm.
