Sample Work: Dialogue Journal WWI

The assignment given required student AA to read about the Treaty of Versailles in her textbook. The information she learned was to be used in an analytical paragraph (another assignment) in which the student pointed out the differences between the actual Treaty of Versailles and the one students negotiated as part of a classroom simulation. AA's work shows that she understands the text she is reading, but only occasionally uses her background information in World War I to process what she is reading and take her thinking to the next level. The letters on the reflection side of her chart indicate levels of Bloom's original taxonomy that the classroom teacher felt most closely matched her reading purpose.
