This program, offered with support from the Library of Congress and in collaboration with the History Project at UC Irvine, will provide teachers with an opportunity to learn about veterans’ experiences during and after wars in the 20th and 21st centuries. We will examine and discuss a variety of first-hand accounts including memoirs, oral histories, and photos created by soldiers and their families. We will also explore resources from the Library of Congress, including its Veteran History Project, and other digital tools to create authentic assessments, such as oral histories and performance-based projects, for use with students. A $100 stipend will be paid to participants upon completion of the program. University extension units will also be available for a fee.
