EdcampK16 will bring together history scholars and teachers in order to promote collaborative conversations. The goal of these conversations is to explore how a continuum can be established between grades K-12 and higher education (grades 13-16 if you will) that will enrich history instruction.
EdcampK16 is an unconference designed specifically for educators.
Arrive with an idea for a session that you would like to lead OR with the anticipation of a full day of learning. EdcampK16's particular focus will be on history instruction, but additional topics such as the use of technology in social studies classrooms, are welcomed and will be embraced. Here are some topics and talking points that could be addressed at EdcampK16
- Current scholarship and its application at the K12 level
- Preparing students for college-level history courses
- Exploring local and oral history tools
- Using digital tools (edtech) to do History
- How do scholars teach critical thinking and document analysis?
- What is the role of historiography in K12 classrooms?
During the first hour (9:00-10:00am), you will have time to grab a cup of coffee (or two) and eat some breakfast while you meet other history scholars and teachers. There will be an empty session board located Hoover Hall's morning congregation area. It is on the session board that you and all the other attendees can post session titles. The morning session will also include a rapid-fire sharing session called a "smackdown". The focus of the "smackdown" will be on websites, apps, digital tools and other resources that be harnassed to enrich instruction in history classrooms.
Sessions begin at 10:00am.
All sessions are located in HOOVER HALL on the beautiful Whittier College campus.
Sessions will conclude at 12:45 at which point we will regroup for the raffle.
EdcampK16 will end at 1pm.
